Igloo Strengthens Embedded Insurance Leadership in the Philippines Through Scale, New Leadership and AI Innovation

Image
Regional insurtech Igloo is strengthening its embedded insurance offerings in the Philippines, reinforcing its role as a trusted technology partner enabling insurers, digital platforms, and financial institutions to deliver accessible, affordable protection at scale. Despite rapid digital adoption, insurance penetration in the Philippines remains approximately  1.9% , leaving a significant portion of the population uninsured or underinsured, particularly among lower-income and informal segments. Embedded insurance, which integrates protection directly into digital platforms consumers already use, is emerging as a practical solution to close this protection gap. The opportunity is expanding rapidly. Industry research projects the Asia-Pacific embedded finance market to reach approximately  US$373 billion  by 2030, driven by mobile-first ecosystems, platform commerce, and persistent financial access gaps. Embedded insurance is becoming a critical component of this shift, en...

Manila Water replaces over 160,000 meters in 2025

Image
Manila Water sustained low nonrevenue water (NRW) levels in 2025, driven in part by the company’s intensified meter replacement activities and consistently rapid response to network leaks across the East Zone. The water company’s NRW was recorded at 13.55 percent in December, bringing the fullyear average to 14.27 percent. This performance reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce both commercial and physical losses in the distribution network.  A major contributor to this performance is the largescale implementation of the company’s meter replacement program in 2025. By endDecember, Manila Water had replaced 168,806 water meters. The meter replacement initiative strengthens the company's efficiency measures by improving consumption accuracy and reduce water losses. These upgrades help ensure accurate billing for customers and reinforce the company’s initiatives to sustainably lower NRW. The company’s quick leak response likewise plays a significant role in managing physical...

Fiuu Predicts Top 2026 Trends in the Philippines’ Digital Payments Landscape

Image
Fiuu , the leading fintech platform in Southeast Asia, has identified top trends and predictions for digital payments in the Philippines. 2025 was a pivotal year for the industry in the Philippines. A series of long-anticipated developments came together within a short period of time: the entry of  Apple Pay and Google Pay , the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ push for  24/7 real-time payment infrastructure ,  tighter anti-money laundering  (AML) requirements, and regulatory guidance across the financial system. Collectively, these shifts changed the role of digital payments in everyday commerce. What was once driven by convenience and incentives has become a necessity for both consumers and merchants. Seamless availability, strong security standards, and regulatory compliance are no longer differentiators. They are now baseline expectations. In the opinion of  Eng Sheng Guan, Fiuu’s Chief Executive Officer , “The digital payments landscape is moving into a more ma...

While Valentine’s is often centered on romantic gestures, love goes beyond fleeting moments. Whether it’s love for yourself, for a spouse, for your children, or for aging parents, the most profound act of care is ensuring your family is not burdened emotionally or financially in life’s inevitable moments of loss. St. Peter  has long championed the importance of memorial preparedness as a  practical and compassionate choice  for Filipino families. For over five decades, St. Peter has offered  affordable traditional and cremation life plans  that allow individuals to secure lifetime memorial service packages at today’s cost — a choice that  protects loved ones from future financial strain. “Love is not just a feeling, it is actio...

Safer Internet Day 2026: Groups warn of escalating AI-driven online abuse targeting Filipino children

Image
Girl and child rights organizations  Plan International Pilipinas  and  Consuelo Foundation  warned of escalating artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled online abuse targeting children, as they convene lawmakers, tech companies, youth leaders, and civil society groups at a Safer Internet Day Celebration on February 24, 2026.  The groups flagged the rapid proliferation of AI tools capable of generating hyper-realistic images, videos, and voice recordings, which are increasingly being weaponized to exploit, harass, and extort children online. These include AI-generated sexual images, “deepfake” content, impersonation scams, and grooming tactics that are more difficult for parents and authorities to detect. “We are facing a reality where algorithms move faster than our laws, leaving children vulnerable to abuse before we even know the risks exist,” said Pebbles Sanchez-Ogang, Executive Director of Plan International Pilipinas. Studies show that one in two children ha...
